Nationwide LoRaWAN™ Network Roll-Out
Melbourne, Australia, 28th May, 2019 – GeoWAN Pty Ltd, an Internet of Things (IoT) focused network provider, announces the National Australian Network rollout of its low power wide area network (LPWAN) with the LoRaWAN™ standard. The network will provide IoT connectivity to Smart City projects, Smart Industry innovations, Agtech systems and Consumer IoT products.
GeoWAN will continue to deploy public network infrastructure in all major Australian cities and regions, whilst assisting solution vendors to provide IoT connectivity that is cost effective, scalable, and responsible. The GeoWAN network is targeted at domestic and global applications, with the high level of security, privacy, and reliability that commercial solutions require. The rise of global acceptance of the LoRaWAN™ IoT standard demonstrates that the value of flexible IoT connectivity is providing high value data for applications and accessible network solutions. Solutions and applications the GeoWAN network is targeted at are Building management, Street lighting, Water metering, Asset monitoring and GPS tracking.
GeoWAN has been building a responsible LoRaWAN™ system since 2016 that will provide Australians a secure future within the Internet of Things.
GeoWAN co-founders Mr. Tim Cara and Mr. Istvan Szecsei have been instrumental in bringing the awareness of the LoRaWAN™ technology to Australia since 2015. They have been developing business related cases that fit the Australian market, matching them to LoRaWAN, and working within the Public, Private, and Edge network applications of the LoRaWAN™ technology. GeoWAN has strict policies around data handling, data localisation within Australia, compliance and regulatory requirements such as RCM.
“We first identified the opportunities that LoRaWAN™ could offer Australia in 2015” says Mr. Tim Cara, co-founder of GeoWAN. “GeoWAN was founded to build a secure, responsible, and hardy telecommunications network that can function seamlessly and survive the harsh Australian environment. This we have now fulfilled.”

About GeoWAN
GeoWAN are a leading provider of LPWAN services, specific to LoRaWAN™ based in Melbourne Victoria. The network server infrastructure enabled by GeoWAN has unique key values to their network services are Reliable, Bi-directional, Affordable, Secure, Scalable and 100% user ownership of data. GeoWAN Cloud is established upon the LoRaWAN™ specification and provides a unique integrated architecture with compliant interface capabilities that can be vastly employed in a larger network deployment. In addition, with zero-touch provisioning mechanism reduces the deployment and operational costs while scaling up their GeoWAN network. This is particularly useful for not only managing the initial configuration of gateways, but also establishing secured connectivity and assigning working channel and transmission power and time to meet local regulation. It significantly reduces the complexity of installing a GeoWAN gateways, and enables quick and easy service turn-up over and over again.
About LoRaWAN™
The LoRaWAN™ specification is a Low Power, Wide Area (LPWA) networking protocol designed to wirelessly connect battery operated ‘things’ to the internet in regional, national or global networks, and targets key Internet of Things (IoT) requirements such as bi-directional communication, end-to-end security, mobility and localization services. LoRaWAN™ network architecture is deployed in a star-of-stars topology in which gateways relay messages between end-devices and a central network server. The gateways are connected to the network server via standard IP connections and act as a transparent bridge, simply converting RF packets to IP packets and vice versa. The specification defines the device-to-infrastructure (LoRa®) physical layer parameters & (LoRaWAN™) protocol and so provides seamless interoperability between manufacturers, as demonstrated via the device certification program. While the specification defines the technical implementation it offers the industry the freedom to innovate and differentiate how it is used.
The LoRaWAN™ specification is developed and maintained by the LoRa Alliance™.
